The seven gifts God grants through the Holy spirit

What are the gifts of the Holy Spirit?
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are seven special gifts God grants that make a person more open and responsive to God’s action, and that complete and perfect the virtues in those who receive them.
We can classify these gifts into 3 categories: Intellectual gifts, Moral gifts, and Foundational gift.
The Catechism notes that these gifts make the faithful docile in the sense of teachability. I know in our 2026 view docile = fragile, but that is not at all what it means in the context of the Catechism. The gifts are there to help us do the right thing even when it is difficult, the spiritual life becomes less about "trying harder" and more about "surrendering better."
The Intellectual gifts
These three gifts perfect the mind, allowing a person to see the world and their life through God's perspective rather than just their own personal view.
Wisdom: This is the highest gift. It isn't just "being smart"; it is the ability to value the things of God over the things of the world. It gives a "taste" for the divine.
Understanding: This gift helps a person grasp the deeper meaning of spiritual truths and sacred scripture. It moves beyond the surface level of "knowing" a fact to "feeling" its truth.
Knowledge: This allows a person to see the internal logic of the created world and how everything leads back to God. it helps us realize the limitations of worldly things so we don't make idols out of them.
The Moral Gifts
These gifts perfect the will and the "appetites," helping us make decisions and act with courage in difficult situations.
Counsel (Right Judgment): This functions like a supernatural intuition. It helps you shift through complex choices and discern the right path quickly and according to God’s will.
Fortitude (Courage): This gift provides the strength to endure long-term suffering or to stand up for what is right, even when it is unpopular or dangerous. It is the "supernatural backbone."
Piety (Reverence): This gift heals our relationship with others and with God. it gives us a "filial" affection for God—treating Him as a loving Father rather than a distant judge—and leads us to respect the dignity of others.
The Foundational Gift
Fear of the Lord (Wonder and Awe): This is often misunderstood as "being afraid of punishment." In reality, it is a profound respect for God’s glory and a "godly fear" of being separated from His love. It is the beginning of wisdom because it puts our ego in its proper place.
When faithfuls consistently respond to these gifts, they begin to see/ experience the 12 fruits of the Holy Spirit : Charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity.
