Third Saint of our Series on the Patron Saints of the WYD 2027 in Seoul, Carlo Acutis is the most recently canonized Saints of the 5, he is one of the first Saints Canonized by Pope Leo XIV and the first Millenial Saint. He is known for his online ministry, long before anybody else entered that space. Nowadays many follow in his footsteps sharing the Gospel and Love of God online , whether it is on Instagram, Blogs, Tiktok , Podcast etc...

Carlo Acutis (September 3, 1991 – October 12, 2006) was an Italian teenager whose life was a unique blend of traditional Catholic piety and the digital age. Known as the "God’s Influencer," he was canonized as a saint in 2025, becoming the first millennial to reach sainthood.

Key Life Facts

Born in London, England and Raised in Milan, Italy he shared the interest of many young people for computer programming, video games, soccer, or film editing, He is known in large part for his website sharing eucharistic miracles online. He is the Patron Saint of Youth, computer programmers, and the internet and he was beatified October 10, 2020 and canonized April 2025.

His life

Carlo Acutis was not born into a deeply religious family; in fact, his mother famously noted that she had only attended Mass a handful of times before Carlo's influence led her back to the faith. From a young age, Carlo displayed an intense devotion to the Eucharist, which he called his "highway to heaven."

What set Carlo apart was his use of technology. A self-taught programmer, he spent years building a website to document Eucharistic Miracles across the globe. He believed that if people truly understood the presence of God in the Eucharist, they would transform their lives.

Despite his technical talents, he lived by a simple rule of life:

  • Daily Mass: He never missed a day if he could help it.

  • The Rosary: He considered Mary his greatest confidante.

  • Charity: He frequently used his pocket money to buy sleeping bags and food for the homeless in Milan.

Illness and Death

In early October 2006, Carlo fell ill with what seemed like the flu. It was quickly diagnosed as M3 Fulminant Leukemia. When asked if he was in pain, he replied:

"I offer all the suffering I will have to suffer for the Lord, for the Pope, and for the Church."

He died just days later, on October 12, 2006, at the age of 15. At his request, he was buried in Assisi, due to his great love for Saint Francis and his dedication to the poor. Despite being so young at the time of his passing he desplayed an incredible spiritual maturity and dedication to his faith throughout his life.

Legacy and Miracles

Carlo’s body, which lies in the Sanctuary of the Spoliation in Assisi, is displayed in jeans, a sweatshirt, and Nikes—a powerful visual reminder that holiness is possible for the modern youth.

Two miracles were officially recognized by the Vatican for his path to sainthood:

  1. 2013: The healing of a Brazilian boy with a rare pancreatic defect after touching a relic of Carlo.

  2. 2022: The recovery of a university student in Florence who suffered severe head trauma; her mother prayed at Carlo's tomb, and the girl made a medically inexplicable recovery.

His life remains a testament to his most famous quote: "All people are born as originals, but many die as photocopies."
